Mr. Swanson was born in Olympia, Washington in 1948. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1970 and obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Montana in 1975. He has been living in Olympia and engaged in the private practice of law in southwest Washington for well over 33 years.

He is admitted to practice both the State and Federal courts and the Washington State Supreme Court. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Association, and the Thurston County Bar Association.

From 1984 through 1996, Mr. Swanson was a founding partner in the Law Firm of Swanson Parr Cordes Younglove & Peeples.

His practice emphasis is in Mediation and Arbitration, Business Law, Real Estate Law, Insurance Defense, and General Business Litigation.

Mr. Swanson's clients include leading insurance companies, banks, construction companies, retail businesses, and private parties in the southwest Washington community.

A significant portion of his practice is in the field of insurance defense litigation, representing insureds in business and personal claims. Mr. Swanson's practice extends throughout southwest Washington, representing plaintiffs and defendants in arbitrations, mediations, and jury trials.

Because he represents both plaintiffs and defendants, he is regularly stipulated to as an arbitrator in mandatory arbitrations and UIM hearings, and regularly serves as a mediator in a wide variety of civil litigation cases.

Mr. Swanson is also active in community service. He is past President of the Mount Rainier Chapter of the American Red Cross, covering Pierce, Thurston, Mason and Lewis Counties. He has also been active in the Thurston County Big Brother/Big Sister program, and is a past board member of United Way, POSSCA, Tumwater Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Senior Center of Thurston County, and other community and volunteer organizations.
